๐ Happy Halloween from BFSC! ๐ธ๏ธ
To all our skaters, families, coaches, and supporters โ we wish you a fun, festive, and safe Halloween! Whether youโre trick-or-treating, watching spooky movies, or just enjoying some treats at home, here are a few safety reminders:
๐ป Halloween Safety Tips
For trick-or-treaters & families
- Wear bright or reflective elements (or carry a flashlight) so youโre visible to drivers.
- Choose costumes that fit well so no one trips. If using a mask, be cautious โ or use face paint instead for better visibility.
- Use safe, sturdy footwear (especially if walking long distances).
- Only visit houses that are well lit and in neighborhoods you know.
- Cross streets at corners or crosswalks, and always look both ways.
- Stick with a group or an adult you trust, and plan your route in advance.
- Check all candy (or treats) before consuming โ toss anything with broken packaging or that looks tampered with.
- Set a curfew or โreturn home byโ time with your child(ren).
For motorists / drivers
- Drive slowly and cautiously โ children may dart into the street unexpectedly.
- Be extra alert in residential neighborhoods, especially near sidewalks, driveways, and crosswalks.
- Avoid distractions (phones, music) and yield to pedestrians.
- Turn your headlights on earlier in the evening to increase visibility.
We also encourage you to check out safety advice from your local police. The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) often shares Halloween reminders โ for example, this recent post: โAs we all get our spook on tonight for Halloween, remember the most important thing is safety!โ (Facebook)
You can follow DRPS on their official social media or website for up-to-date community safety tips.
Stay safe, have fun, and enjoy a spooktacular Halloween! ๐๐๐ก๏ธ
