2026 Spring Schedule and Registration Information

Welcome back, Bowmanville Figure Skating Club families! This season, we’re continuing to make some updates to our programming to align with Skate Ontario’s best practices. These changes are designed to help every skater progress and focus on the athlete as a whole. We’ve updated our program descriptions to make it easier to find the right fit for each skater. Please take a moment to review them carefully before registration.

Spring Registration for all programs will be April 18, 2026, at 9:00 AM.

Out of Club STARSkaters must wait until April 25th at 9 am to sign up.

Program sessions will begin the week of May 9th, 2026.

Program Descriptions

CanSkate

The CanSkate program is Skate Canada’s official learn-to-skate program. It teaches fundamental skating skills like balance, control, and agility in a fun environment. CanSkate is the foundation for all ice sports, including figure skating, hockey, and speed skating.

Pre-CanSkate

Pre-CanSkate is for new skaters who are 3 years old by December 31, 2025. Skaters in this program may advance to CanSkate Stages 1-3 based on their progress.

CanSkate 1-3 & CanSkate 4-6

CanSkate 1-3 This program is for new and returning skaters who are 4+ years old (or have passed Pre-CanSkate). Skaters will work on Stages 1, 2, or 3 of the CanSkate program.

CanSkate 4-6 Skaters must have passed CanSkate Stage 3 to register for this program.

Adult/Teen Canskate This program is for Adults and teens 14+ years old. Whether you’re new to skating or want to brush up on some of your old skills, this program is for you.

  • These programs are fully coached sessions.

StarSkate

StarSkate is Skate Canada’s premier figure skating program. This program will build on the fundamentals that are taught in the CanSkate program.

Star 1-2 This program is the introduction to figure skating. Skaters will receive lessons from club coaches in free skate, dance, skills, artistic and synchro. Skaters must have completed the CanSkate program (with the completion of the Stage 6 badge) to register for this program. This program is fully coached.

Star 3+ These sessions are for skaters who have passed all three Star 2 tests plus at least 2 complete Star 3 tests; OR passed all three Star 2 tests and are 14 years of age by Dec 31/25.

  • Many sessions include group classes and time for skaters to work on practising their skills or working with a private coach.
  • Sessions also require skaters to do off-ice warm-up and cool-down activities.

Star 4+ These sessions are for skaters who have passed all Star 3 assessments and 2 completed Star 4 tests OR passed all three Star 2 tests and are 14 years of age by Dec 31/25.

Open Ice Sessions

Skaters in StarSkate levels 2 through 5 may access open ice in addition to their regularly scheduled programming sessions. Open ice is not to be used as a substitute for regular programming, but rather as a supplementary opportunity for practice and growth. Off Ice Sessions

Off-Ice Sessions are a key component of a skater’s development, focusing on skills like conditioning, jumps, spinners, and more. Off-ice sessions will be available and are part of your skater’s program for all StarSkaters and CanSkate 4-6 (passed CanSkate 3). Schedules will be provided at the beginning of the season.

All new skaters for the 2025-2026 season will be charged an additional mandatory, non-refundable Skate Canada fee of $62.70 upon checkout.

Note BFSC reserves the right to combine, cancel or split sessions, make scheduling changes due to registration numbers or Municipal ice allocation approval. If enrollment is too low for a program to run, families will be contacted about a change in time and/or refund.
