Power Skating

What is Power Skating?

Power Skating program at BFSC is an instructional program that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. The result is a dynamic, challenging program that prepares skaters to join hockey/ringette and/or figure skating.

Who’s it for?

For skaters of all ages who already have basic forward and backward skating skills. Skaters must have passed 2/3 of the Stage 3 ribbons from CanSkate or, if they have never participated in CanSkate before, they must be able to skate the length of the ice using alternate strides and be able to stop on command without the use of boards. Skaters currently in the CanSkate program who are identified by the coaching staff for their talent and work ethic will be invited to the program periodically during the season.

Who teaches it?

NCCP-trained professional coaches, assisted by trained program assistants.

What will you learn?

A complete series of balance, control and agility skills that pertain to hockey, ringette, and figure skating. As the program only has skaters who already know how to skate, skaters will be challenged with more difficult skills and pushed to develop more speed & power to prepare them for game settings or moving to figure skating.

What can you expect?

Action, movement and fun! Lessons are given in a group format with a coach-to-student ratio of a maximum 1:10. Badges, ribbons and other incentives are used to benchmark skaters’ progress and reward effort and participation.

What do you need to participate?

Skates, a CSA-approved hockey helmet, long pants, gloves, warm sweater and vest or jacket.
