The Bowmanville Figure Skating Club is proud to congratulate Heather LeVon (Geboers) on her induction into the Bowmanville Sports Hall of Fame!
Heather began her skating journey as a young girl with the Orono Figure skating club and it was there that she fell in love with the sport! Her passion to compete and improve every time she stepped onto the ice was evident from the very beginning, she was a diligent and focused young skater.
With the encouragement and support of her parents, Heather travelled to numerous arenas in order to facilitate the ice time, coaching and training time she required to not only live out her passion but to also excel to a competitive level.
She followed her dream of excellence and achievement down the long road of an elite athlete and it was in 2001 that she competed at her 1st National Level competition in Winnipeg representing her club, herself and the community she loved. She was at Canadians!!
Many of our BFSC coaches still get goose bumps thinking of how poised Heather was and how inspiring it was to have a young lady from Bowmanville fulfill her dream on a National stage.
Once again, in 2002 Heather competed at the National level but this time for Bowmanville Figure Skating Club and we were so very proud!
Through tireless hard work and complete dedication she was able to exact even more improvement and refinement from herself and place even higher up than she had the year before.
Heather was known as a sweetheart on the ice, but she was even more so off the ice. An honorable athlete and compassionate, kind and caring person, Heather was always and remains to this day highly respected by everyone within our skating community.
Indicative of true passion and a sense of respect in wanting to give back to the sport she loves so very much, Heather eventually became a certified National CanSkate Program coach as well as the CanPower and StarSkate levels. She is truly an inspiration to young skaters and has translated her experiences as an athlete into positive coaching/mentoring relationships with her own students regardless of their skill level or development.
Heather’s long term relationship with BFSC is one that we are so very grateful for and she continues coaching with our club to this day in addition to her full time career with the Kawartha Pineridge School Board. She is married and the proud mother of two children who we join in congratulating her on this well-deserved honor.
Once again, on behalf of the Bowmanville Figure Skating Club we are honored to see Heather’s life-long love of Figure Skating be recognized with such distinction.
